The 601 Lounge Chair stands out with its unique structural design, which prioritizes both comfort and sturdiness. The upholstery conceals a sturdy wood frame that supports the back and seating cushions, while being mounted on top of a wood leg frame. The armrests are connected to the upholstery back support and the wood leg frame using stainless or aluminum hardware. This contemporary and elegant design minimizes excessive stress points, ensuring a better seating experience and longevity.
Constructed with a reinforced upholstery frame over a handcrafted wood base, the 601 Lounge Chair features wooden arms attached to the reinforced upholstery frame on the back and the wood leg frame using machine-made stainless-steel supports. With dimensions of 650mm x 750mm x 800mm, this lounge chair combines functionality and style.
One of the key strengths of the 601 Lounge Chair lies in its ability to distribute the forces generated by the user into four elements, reducing stress points that can lead to failure or breakage. This innovative approach to design ensures both durability and user comfort.
The design process for the 601 Lounge Chair took six months and was carried out in Guatemala City in 2020. During this time, extensive research was conducted on the history of furniture from 1840 to 1930, design movements from ornamental to functionalist design, and the evolution of production methods from crafts to industrial processes. This thorough research laid the foundation for the creation of a truly unique and functional piece of furniture.
One of the most challenging aspects of the design process was the prototyping and testing phase. Lounge chairs require multiple iterations and tests to achieve the desired level of comfort. Through perseverance and dedication, Fabrizio Constanza overcame these challenges to create a lounge chair that seamlessly blends form and function.
The 601 Lounge Chair is a testament to the designer's commitment to creating a modern furniture piece that pays homage to the past while embracing contemporary design principles. Its recognition in the form of the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 further solidifies its status as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements. This prestigious award acknowledges the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
